(Sacramento) After multiple, marathon budget negotiations with the Governor and other top legislative leaders over the past several weeks Assembly Speaker Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) says shes pleased to announce that a budget agreement has been reached. The Speaker said she is expecting a vote on the budget revision package by the Assembly and Senate later this week. In her remarks to the media the Speaker said shes glad the state will no longer need to issue IOUs but said shes saddened by the pain that will be the result of the deep spending cuts. Heres more from Speaker Bass in this Assembly Access video.
Although the cuts are "painful for all of us", not "ALL" of us will be wondering whether we pay the rent that week or feed our children. What this budget proposal does is simply postpone the trauma to our citizens in years to come. I feel disappointed and am let down by this proposal. The 100 million cut to the CalWORKs Single Allocation Fund is going to cause much more ripple effects that you might imagine today. I expect Hell will have to be paid in the very near future.
