  • Hercules wasn't the last Disney movie to be on Laserdisc. Lady and the Tramp (the 2 widescreen ones and the full screen Academy version) in Fall 1998. Followed by The Rescuers and 101 Dalmatians in March 1999 (Rescuers was released in January 1999 originally but was recalled like the January 1999 VHS, so the other one is repressed in March 1999) Mulan wasn't released on LD in the USA.

  • @avickers1992 Yeah, I should have said last "new" Disney movie to be released on LD in the US.

  • Japanese Homeward Bound and The Little Mermaid are really beautiful art. The North American release covers are very cartoon-ish ya know. Thanks for the info concerning Lady and the Tramp. I try my best to keep a eye out for the original aspect ratio for movies.

  • @TrOyGm Yeah, the Japanese variant covers are pretty awesome. Very worth the effort in trying to import them!

Hope you plan on getting the Beauty and the Beast Letterboxed Laserdisc if you want that movie in its original aspect ratio!

  • @laserdiscphan And that is also the version to get if you dislike the revisionist changes to the film. The recent DVD just uses the Special Edition IMAX version, while the Blu Ray uses 3 versions of the film like the Platinum Edition DVD.

  • @andrewvickers1992 I've never watched the Special edition with the extra songs and such. I've never heard good things about it, so I figured I'm better off without it.

  • @andrewvickers1992 and so does the 1992 version, but that was the print I'm used to watching, some parts are supposed to be dark.

  • @laserdiscphan Yes BatB was shot in 1.66:1 Widescreen, and the WiP version was also presented that way on LD, the film looked squeezed in the 1.85:1, the 1.78:1 ratio looks accurate enough as it is between 1.66:1 and 1.85:1, they could have used a 1.75:1 ratio for the DVD like they did for the Jungle Book and Robin Hood DVDs. Very cool comparison, even though the Diamond Edition DVD/Blu-Ray is darkened up a little, it still looks bright, the 2002 edition looks a bit faded.
