Are groups like Stryper, and Petra and people like Amy Grant, Bebo Norman and Rebbecca St. James doing Christ and the lost a disservice by singing "worldly" music in the guise of Christian songs?

  • Amazing Grace is religious in it's assumed connection to God's Grace. That was the intent and it most often sung by believers who know whom they are singing about.

  • @1210Manchester yes, but the point is that ultra fundamental Christians say that only certain styles of music can be made into music that honors God, and Amazing Grace was originally a bar song, so that shows that their theory is incorrect.

  • two point to Jesus or God in a biblical way, 3. be a image of Gods exact character. Jesus said you should know them by their fruits, what kind of fruit is that music producing, fruit of the Spirit or fruit of the flesh, for remember he who walks in the spirit shall not fulfill the desires of the flesh...

  • @silver821000 well, I fulfill the desires of the flesh all the time, and so do you. My flesh desires food, rest, recreation, and even good music. People who are married fulfill their desires and they do it with God's permission. I think you need to define what God means in that verse, what are the desires of the flesh? Music was created for our enjoyment and enrichment. I see nothing wrong with making music that is honorable, godly and enjoyable.

  • 2 Chronicles 7:14 says

If my people which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from thier wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive thier sin,and will heal thier land.

  • @faith7404 ok, again, this is from God's word, so I agree with it, but you still have not proven to me that rock is a sin. There is nothing in the style itself that is haughty or proud, anymore than there is in the style of country, or rap or quartet, it's the people and thier motivation that is either good or bad, not the style itself. Show me in the Bible where God says "thou shalt only worship me with soft, wimpy music and no loud instruments" then I'll believe you.

  • Amazing grace how sweet the sound, teh author is saying what teh psalmist written that Gods words were sweet as honey. Grace is a very sweet man a man who understood how wretched or sinful he is as Jesus said about the parable of the pharisee and sinner/tax collector standing afar off saying God be merciful to me a sinner. This author was representing that sinner and how great God is it was a song formed out of the joy of salvation. We have to be careful not to cause our brothers to stumble.

  • Its why I brought you and all to the very word for light to this matter to see the very character of God. Remember how many times Jesus himself rebuked the pharisees because of the religion, their misinformed traditional doctrines that only enslaved men rather then do what Christ came to do that is to give men life and that more abundantly to set them free. Like amazing grace mentioned earlier is an appropriate gospel song,Paul said what a wretched man I am if in this life time I only have hope.

  • God has called us to be free yet not to sin. We are to represent Him rightly. Dear brother I believe you love Him and are sincere yet I suggest you study the scriptures more soundly before speaking. Many eyes see these pages Paul said I became all to all men so that I might win some to Christ, meaning he didn't want to make an offense, as Jesus spoken be wise as serpents but innocent as doves. Christian music is defined not by our interpretation but by His word.

  • When I say flesh if you would have read the scripture as I have asked you, you would know what I am talking about. Galatians chapter 5 talks about the flesh, not fleshly things as food and water but the flesh that wars against His Spirit. The sinful nature, adultery, gossips, slanderers, sorceresser things of this source. It in part angers and in part hurts me because I know many will be judge for what they preach for misleading people even with good intent.

  • God will always express sorrow or joy throughout music. For example the band Third Day, cry out to Jesus. This song is good for the believer and for he who doesn't know Christ yet, you feel a sense of compassion and in the song get the sense that God understands. Any song every created by God and by His inspiration above all else will always be for these three important things, 1. It will glorify the Father, Son and Holy Ghost,

  • Notice anger, harsh words, and screaming are not part of the fruit of the Holy Spirit. I will say this sorrow, (Godly sorrow) Music that will produce repentance in recognition of how we have fallen short of God so that we reach out to God all the more and help us see our true need for Him and where we may be wrong in our walk with Him. Or, if the one is unsaved can find through this song a message that speaks Christ pain for the lost and hurting.
