@IngridBergmanRocked Yes, have to agree with you. I think that the scene where they're caught in the wine cellar is the most passionate scene I've ever seen in any movie.....where even though she wanted to, she could not have stopped kissing him despite the fact Claude Raines was coming into the cellar.

she doesn't die does she? i'm worried! you never know with a hitchcock! could end happy, could end sad...

"Are you going to Leopoldina?" This was the actual first name of the actress that plays Alex's mother. In the cast credits, Madame Constantine, no first name is given.

@xmenz123 How is it phony? Sebastian is in a completely separate room in the house on a different floor, even- with the door shut. He'd need x-ray vision to observe it.

@ichigorobei You are right they could use arsenic over days, but it doesnt make you sleepy, but sick. She acts like she is very sleepy and is just about to sleep, so therefore my guess is sleeping pills. The sleeping pills they were taking that time was barbiturates (they are very toxic). If you are taking barbiturates often, you will suddenly die from a overdose, because it takes long time to get rid of it, so there will be a lot accumulated in your body. After a certain amount you will die.

@estelle715 You are probably right. See my note to globe255. They would not have used sleeping pills as globe255 suggests, and cyankalium (potassium cyanide) would have killed her off too fast. A slow, cumulative poison like arsenic makes sense, but you are right, she would have eventually developed severe abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, convulsions, coma, death. You are also right that even Bergman could not have survived arsenic poisoning and still managed to look that great!

@globe255 Actually, estelle715 has a point. They couldn't use sleeping pills in the coffee because you'd have to use a lot, it would taste really yucky, and it would kill her right away. Sleep meds in small doses would not accumulate over time. They probably used arsenic. When given in small amounts, it accumulates, make you sicker, then kills you. At first you could feel dizzy, drowsy, confused, as Alicia did, but then, as estelle715 wrote, you'd get abdominal pain, vomiting, convulsions.
