@ss33988 an initial burst of all battery guns hitting at the same time can paralyze an enemy in fear. Imagine being asleep in a foxhole, or cleaning your rifle, or boresighting your tank, and out of the blue the entire world explodes around you.
@ss33988 3 rounds per 2 minutes initially... they dont say how long that rate of fire can be maintained though. After that the barrel is too hot to sustain that rate of fire without damaging it.
Also an 8" round can hit pretty hard and you obviously have more than one gun firing during a fire mission. ;)

I served as a "cannon cocker" in a 8" howitizer, towed unit. Same piece as in the film.
We always operated with less people than the TO&E called for. Four people on the loading tray only slowed things down. You only needed two.

@ss33988 Don't underestimate the demoralizing effect that shell produces even at a low rate of fire.
