Love this album....an absolute obscure treasure!!....I found a CD of it years ago, but it didn't have this song on it, which was on the vinyl release that my brother used to have. So glad to have found it here. Thanks so much for posting!

I bought this album because I am in love with this Becker/Fagen song! I have never heard such wonderful jazz chords in a country/rock song before. Kay does a great job interpreting this SD song too!

@hunkylynch I walked many a mile while hitch hiking back and forth between my parents place to Tech school back with that tune running and rerunning in my head back shortly after it was first released.

The three 1970s solo albums were great, especially the first two, they are - together with the John Kay Band bootlegs - highlights in the history of the Wolf. In my opinion, John Kay never sounded better than during these years.

i appreciate when John Kay is celebrated....thanks.

@hunkylynch If he was a country artist he woulds have been more acknowledged
Talent has a way of getting in the way of success. Great album. and so was forgotten songs.

My favorite song from this LP (which I have a couple of somewhere) was his rendition of "You Win Again". Have not been able to download it even from Limewire.

"My Sportin' Life" is a great album! My brother used to have the vinyl album and this was one of my favorite tracks. I was lucky enough to find a CD of it just a few years ago but strange and to my disappointment, this song wasn't on the CD. Thanks for posting so I can enjoy it again!
STEPPENWOLF is my favorite band of all time. JOHN KAY is my favorite recording artist of all time.

What's the name of the John Kay song that starts: I've damn near walked this world around. Another city, another town. Thanks for posting this. It sure brings back lots of memories.

I really dug this and his version of "Drift Away" and Ron Davies' "Sing With The Children" is to absoByGodlutely DIE FOR!! Long live John Kay! This puppy is being added to my list of Favorites, and now, I'll beg your pardon as I make my way to my all time John Kay fave, from "Forgotten Songs....." namely "Somebody", which is so damofino FINE! Don't forget "Nobody Lives Here Anymore", "Heros & Devils", & the title track! Come to think of it, there isn't one clinker tune on the MY SPORTIN' LIFE album.

If I remember this song was written by Becker and Fagan (of Steely Dan fame). I found that interesting even back in the day.

YES....This song was written by Walter Becker & Donald Fagen of Steely Dan. They were originally signed to ABC/Dunhill records as staff songwriters before they broke big with Steely Dan. John Kay told me Becker & Fagen never recorded this song for release themselves, but it was a tune he really liked and he recorded it.
