Complainers, cut her a break about her middle,or youthful color... look at the date. She was only around 35,and only two years after the London Lucia. She was still figuring a lot of things out, and was still a young woman, and sounded like one. How nice!

Lovely, yes but it sounds more like Amina. It lacks the Verdi sound with the right weight. Both Leontyne Price and Callas give it a much more authentic sound.

@markbob120 I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that you are a not a musician of any kind. I have played violin for over 30 years so I do have some kind of ear.
The statements you make about Leontyne Price simply are not factual. No operatic singer gets a 'pass' for decades. Your ridiculous statement is not only insulting to her but to everyone who listens to her.
There is clearly something wrong with your hearing or your taste, maybe both.

@gestas60323 Leontyne Price! You must be kidding! She has gotten a pass for 20 years on ALL of her many voice flaws and worse her overwrought ridiculous interpretations. Why the pass? No one dares speak ill of her because she is black and the critic who spoke ill would be accused of racism in the US! Most are afraid to speak the truth, I am not.

wonderful, thans for this post. her middle voice might not have the mezzo quality of Leontyne Price....but her trills, ornamentation, acuti - simply magnificent!

Sutherland was a magnificent singer. For this aria though, I personally prefer Leontyne Price's rendition.
