In his lengthy career, Sir David has watched the human population more than double from 2.5 billion in 1950 to nearly seven billion. He reflects on the profound effects of this rapid growth, both on humans and the environment.
While much of the projected growth in human population is likely to come from the developing world, it is the lifestyle enjoyed by many in the West that has the most impact on the planet. Some experts claim that in the UK consumers use as much as two and a half times their fair share of Earth's resources.
Sir David examines whether it is the duty of individuals to commit not only to smaller families, but to change the way they live for the sake of humanity and planet Earth. "

@sarahlivesey We educate the population. The population puts pressure on the governments (directly or indirectly) to make the necessary changes and we either survive or we don't. I suspect mankind will survive but there will always be a small percentage of the popn. screwing everyone else's standard of living to improve their own.. it's just how humankind is.

set a limit to populations, in places that are over that limit, make it illegal for people to reproduce. when the population gets to under the limit, then let people reproduce again. idk why india and china havent been nuked yet...

"Creating" a "very big pizza" (pop culture metaphor) means nothing, since Americans & Europeans --- 10%-15% of the world's population --- would STILL insist they take 50% to 75% of it, leaving 85%-90% of the world's people to fight for 25%-50% of it. China & India, by virtue of their giant populations, will get, together, at least, 25% to 35% of the rest of the "pizza," so you're talking about over 50% of the remainder of the world's people fighting for roughly 15%-25%... Back to square one...

That's the "big picture" that even the "most educted" either can not see or PRETEND doesn't exist: Poor people can NOT destroy --- OR DEGRADE --- the world at the RATEs that Europeans and Americans, comprising between 10-15% of the world's population, can and WHICH Europeans & Americans HAVE BEEN DESTROYING it in the last 200 years, particularly since the massive use of fossiles, for synthetics, chemicals, internal combustion, & thousands of other utilities and products, since the early 1900s.
