A Documentary by the US Atomic Energy Comission about the SL-1 Acident, which as of 2011 is the only known fatal reactor accident in the USA.
Part 2 of 7
On January 3, 19611961, SL-1, the Stationary Low-Power Reactor Number One, was being prepared for a restart, when the control rods were accidentally removed too far, causing the reactor to go prompt critical. This led to large amounts of heat being generated, which then caused violent water boiling.
