Part 1: In the Red and Brown Water
By Tarell Alvin McCraney
Directed by Tina Landau

How far will fast, beautiful Oya go to make a mark in the world? IN THE RED AND BROWN WATER is the intoxicating story that charts a young girls thrust into womanhood and her subsequent fall into the murky waters of life.

Part 2: The Brothers Size and
Marcus; or the Secret of Sweet
By Tarell Alvin McCraney
Directed by Robert OHara

Reconceived since it premiered as part of The Publics 2007-2008 season, THE BROTHERS SIZE is a taut, rhythmic and playful drama that follows two brothers as they walk the line between law and liberty.

MARCUS; OR THE SECRET OF SWEET is a beautiful and touching tale of a young mans awakening to his tenuous connections with his history, his friends, his sexuality and himself.

Presented by The Public Theater in association with McCarter Theatre.

  • Saw Marcus, The Secret of Sweet. I believe that words should always add to. Nevertheless the repeated usage of the word N*gge* didn't add anything to the play. I was taken aback by the part of the play when Marcus was asked to outright suck someone's dick. C'mon really people? This play opens up to the homosexuality of a young man in New Orleans. In my opinion it's raw. It was one of the worst plays I've seen. After intermission, the theatre was only half full b/c people walked out.
