  • I just hope this isn't what's taught if a real blade is involved whether it is rubber, wood, or cold steel. I would never grapple the attacker on purpose. Attacker shold actually try to slash like crazy. Just a tactical thought.

  • @itachi123100

Really no need to apologise. You take a different view and I can respect that. But I will have to agree to disagree - absolutely. I would agree a black belt should normally command respect but I have experienced enough martial arts over the years to know that it does not always, and should not automatically, command respect. The good thing is I see your view as no less important than any other black belts out there!! All the best for your new year!

  • @itachi123100

I encourage you to read the conversation from the very start. I did not like his tone from the start and sensei or not I do not regard any human being as being worthy of more respect than another. Respect is earned and he misrepresented what I said at the start and just kept going. I have no duty to respect such a person. And you know what? You're free to disagree with me too. But please don't try to convince me I did anything wrong since I do not think I did.

  • @itachi123100

I do not agree that it is wrong to voice an opinion. I don't need to meet him to have an opinion. Have you even seen the video footage I'm referring to? I care about the spirit of Aikido too. Shodokan already gets enough abuse from traditionalists. We do not need to see this brand of 'Aikido' [if one can even call it that]. Get him to take up Judo or something more appropriate. Don't think you can tell me what I can and can't say - THAT is wrong to try.

  • @AikiSilverback

Maybe this guy is a good player. But I don't like the footage I have seen of him I'm afraid. There's a match AikidoBob can point you in the direction of where he pulls off just about the most unsportsman-like move I've ever seen in an Aikido bout. Then you can see what the refs reaction is too!! But AikidoBob doesn't think I'm permitted a view on his student! He would rather we all shine sunlight up his arse!

  • @AikiSilverback A Brit did win, and a dang good player Chris is! Cheers, John

  • @dooyeweerd @AikidoBob Bob is correct when he uses the term "handed his butt" - I was!!! I misjudged Josh's capability in the Toshu Randori bout the previous day and he threw me around the mat like it was a demo!! I have been doing Competitive Aikido for over 10 years and Josh is one of the best - though not THE best since a Brit won over all :-) Only joking Bob. @dooyeweerd if you want to see this and understand it's application then you are welcome to come along to my club in Southampton

  • @AikidoBob

Amazing how even someone as childish as you can be allowed to 'teach' Aikido!! Go and talk to those who are still listening to you because I'm not.

  • @dooyeweerd Still trying to win the argument? So who is the one into competition, sounding hollow, the one who can't lose his ego, can't give up the argument? I bow out! U win! I don't bow to O'sensei, I bow to Tomiki and Kano. You crack me up. BTW ever hear of the hell dojo days? Seems you want to forget Uyeshiba's nationalistic involvement in world war two, practice revisionist history, forget his support of the war, rape of Manchuria and China. I enjoy sparring and bet you reply again lol

  • @AikidoBob

When the stereotype fits - use it!

And that's why you sound so hollow when you speak about the art and randori. Your 'functional' approach bleeds the heart and soul out of Aikido. Still, if that's how you want to practice it fine - just ignore its heritage every time you bow to O Sensei!
