I think there's about 2 or 3. But they're rare to acquire and you might as well forget about trying to get them. Early on. That sword he has now. Gets stronger based on encounters.

come to think of it is there some weapon better than his?

btw i only played this game once and that was long ago :/

Well you can remove his armor. But....do you really want to? Changing his sword you need another one to take its place.
