I find it funny that people can do custom jobs on their own cars to make full electric and get 200+ miles per charge for about 10k of work but a dealership can't seem to go more than 90 miles per charge and they charge 49k+ for the car.

Nuclear Fusion is a technology widely accepted to be further away than current 'renewable technologies'. The point of having an electric vehicle is it gives one the option to charge it from a renewable source. Granted, for a few years to come the energy will be derived from our current electricity grid, which is dependent on fossil fuels. But improving the green credentials of the grid is easier than creating an entire hydrogen economy, or solving nuclear fusion. This is a good intermediate step
