Good political advice

In the wake of the inexplicable Democratic capitulation to the Bush Administration's demands vis a vis the FISA legislation this past weekend, I was wondering for the umpteenth time just what the hell the congressional Democrats were thinking. They just handed the keys to the kingdom to the Attorney General with the least credibility of anyone in politics since the Nixon Administration.

I was reminded of this clip from the West Wing (Season 3, Episode name is "Gone Quiet"). In all of the romance about Jack Bauer and how the Republican Presidential candidates seem to want him as their CTU operative of choice, I would like to bring this fictional character to the Democrats and say to them:

"You know those Democratic Operatives who have been giving you electoral advice for the last twelve years? The Bob Shrums of the world? THEY COMPLETELY SUCK AT THEIR JOBS! STOP LISTENING TO THEM!"

I hope somewhere there is a real life Bruno Gianelli who is waiting in the wings to whisper into the ears of a Dennis Kucinich or a Russ Feingold - or even of a Chuck Hagel or a Dick Durbin - "This is too far, fight back with everything you have or they will keep on stealing your lunch money, if only because you are making it too easy."

I agree. Im no democrat or liberal, but this PC agenda the left is pushing is really pathetic. Stand and deliver, fight back and show the world you arent cowards, but warriors in your own right.

He was one of the best characters in the series and dominated every scene that he appeared in.

And what he says here also applies to moderate Republicans too scared to stand up to the Tea Party. When someone like Newt Gingrich is lambasted for mildly criticising a Tea Party policy then things are getting crazy.

Senator Vinick (Alan Alda) wouldn't last 5 minutes in today's Tea Party dominated Republican movement, and certainly would never be the presidential candidate.

@UncleMikeNJ A man who is not left nor right shot a centrist politician (a dem, yes) and he was inspired by a republican woman he disagrees with? Yes, cos he cannot be just a lone nut.

Btw, Cho from VA Tech used what sounds like left wing rhetoric in his video, talking about the evil rich.  So I guess the left is responsible for that shooting.

Or maybe not. Maybe Cho, as well as the Bush-hatin, Israel-hatin, nutcase from Tuscon, are both just lone gunmen.

@TomerMMHA He shot a Democrat and was obsessed with States' Rights and the gold standard. I'd say, "You do the math," but since no Republican has balanced the budget in half a century, that's out!
