Is Randism tantamount to a new religion?

If you ever get into a conversation with people who follow Ayn Rand you will soon get the feeling that you are in fact in the company of the type of insistent door to door sales person who just wont listen to the fact that you don't see things the way they do and that you have ready thought the problem out! "so thanks for calling, but no thanks what you are selling really is what I am looking for!"
Now go peddle your half bake truth somewhere else!
As if Ayn Rand had any true answers, or had thought out the mysteries of the universe and had supplied all the answers!

hardy very objective really, and all very subject to Ayn and here books (including a couple of very nice films!)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayn_Rand

All that being said, in all fairness she did make a couple of interesting points, but has also been responsible for a generation of black and white thinkers which are incapable of flexible thought!

The Word god is often used where one should say idol, and idols are often treated as gods, and if their Narrative becomes central to the life of an individual then they are as a follower!

  • Heres some Ayn Rand fo ya ol sport. "When one acts on pity against justice, it is the good whom one punishes for the sake of the evil; when one saves the guilty from suffering, it is the innocent whom one forces to suffer. There is no escape from justice, nothing can be unearned and unpaid for in the universe, neither in matter or in spirit - and if the guilty do not pay, then the innocent have to pay it." Atlas Shrugged read it!

  • Signofthedollarb "Objectivist. I am a good shepard!" That is an interesting remark on your profile page. I have in fact read Ayn Rand, as well as many other things, including Marx, yet I am not a communist!

The Bible, The Koran, and fair bit of eastern thinking yet I am not Religious!

  • My thought here is not to say that all that Ayn Rand said was wrong, but to point out that by having a fixed view (ie of another) is limiting.

I actual find a fair bit of Irony in a lot of her work, I also take her personal experience pior to moving to the USA and what was going on at the time into consideration when assessing her.

"When one thinks they know all that is to know they often jump to conclusions about others" My words at least I am not consciously quoting any other in particular.

  • Great vid. I very much agree with you.

  • Thank you RosieDesire. I hope my responses to you on the Pennsays video are not taken badly, I was getting a bit feed up with the whole Atheist Agnostic word game.

  • I'm going to attempt to summat your main ideas. How far off the mark am I?

-"Quantity is more important the quality, because quality doesn't exist, a book is a book."

"There is no truth, and anyone who is sure of themselves is foolish, for no one can be sure of themselves. Every idea is equally valid, because they are all invalid. Claiming reality is the final say in truth (as Objectivists do) is equivalent to religious dogma." -

You should be more kind to Ayn Rand, you are in all her books.

  • ;-)) good job :D

  • I hope that my choice of words was not an offence to yourself, however communication depends on those involved, language is often a very personal choice.

  • As long as one truly understands the word and does not get lost in the multitude of words ;-)

  • Definately a word game and no, I didn't take any offense. It was fairly dead on. Thanks.
