  • Bigger, better, sexier 2012 edition of the book, SECRETS OF THE OLYMPIC CEREMONIES by Myles Garcia, now out and available on amazon. It spills all the secrets on how these shows (from Berlin 1936 to Vancouver 2010) are put together. With over 150 photos and images, many of them never before published. Check out the website—secretolympiceremony

  • what did the announcer said

  • @Nathaniel3040

Innsbruck 12 years earlier celebrated the ninth winter games in febraury 1964. In 1970 the IOC entrust to Denver the celebration of 1976 Winter Olympics but the 300 percent rise in costs and worries about environmental impact led to Colorado voters' rejection on November 7, 1972, by a 3 to 2 margin, of a $5 million bond issue to finance the games with public funds. So the IOC in Febraury 1973 selected to Innsbruck like host.

  • @Nathaniel3040 i guess the first flame was a memory for the games in innsbruck from 1964

  • Why do they have two

  • hahaha.. the flames were so big that it seemed they wanted to burn the stadium..ahhaha

  • Thanks, I had no idea. Of course I was only 8....

But it was simpler times. No city could do this again.

  • denver recinded their games in nov. '72 and innsbruck was the only place that could be ready in less than 4 years.

village of lake placid submitted and emergency bid which helped them get the '80 o.w.g.

part of the reason that colorado voters said "no" was that the denver organizers were not truthful about keeping the project to a reasonable size. if they followed through, the final costs would have been 4-5 times the original estimates. those voters were ahead of times about the co$t$.

  • They got the games back after only 12 years? That would never happen now.
