@pointydog There is no primary role for bass. There's a way people typically play it, but you can do whatever you want with any instrument.
It's clear to me from this video that he could groove within a band, anyway. Very nice grooving with the drum track.
I get what you mean, though... there are wonder-bassists who can play extremely fast, but are useless in a band setting. But this guy is grooving the whole time.
