  • Instead Denicool pipe crystals can be used a few pips of rice, it absorbs moisture perfectly. I also use it sometimes instead of carbon filter.

  • Super cool idea...yet again Zubris...I love it....you see this is what pipe smoking is all about...these are the kind of things your grandfather might have done, living in a time where you used what you had and not what you could buy in a shop...brilliant stuff...dub

  • Great info. I read somewhere that developing a really good cake in the bottom of the bowl at the heel will in most cases resolve gurgling issues

  • I've read that it is important for many reasons. Building cake on the bottom takes time, that's why it's important to smoke the bowl till the end. It's easier to form with bowls that are tapered at the bottom. I would say it helps resolve gurgle issues...but again narrow air passage is also a big contributor.

  • I came across a product 'Denicool' pipe crystal which is suppose to absorb moisture in pipe. Do you have any information about this?

  • Michael...sorry for my delayed response to this one....but I heard Denicool works well, the only possible downside might be it would slow down cake build-up on the bottom of the bowl...but I still think it's worth a try.

  • Combustion itself produces carbon dioxide + water. The water is initially hot and in vapor form; when it leaves the bowl it cools and condenses in the bottom of the bowl and the stem. Obstructions and turbulence will promote this condensation. Actually water production is a sign that the charge is burning well. I have found no better way of dealing with water than a pipe cleaner down to the bowl - the balsa and other devices only accumulate the water.

  • yeah, i was actually going to suggest this same thing. My tobacconist suggest putting one or two Erics Keystone (those little packets of sandstone pebbles) into the bottom of the bowl. the only caution would be to make sure you don't suck that thing into the shank hole. i suppose if you were careful to pack it just so, that would do the trick on a slurpy pipe.

  • Thank You Dub! May be soon I will make a videoanswer about my method (low budget) of cleaning the pipes . The experience of other people - it is priceless stuff!

  • Thanks for the tip about slow-down in cake build-up on the bottom of the bowl.

I did try them and felt that the effect is minimal.
