Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale is Kentucky Ale aged in spent bourbon barrels for 4-8 weeks. Alltech is a biotech firm (not exactly craft brewing) that has splendidly made the transition to brewing. That's just my opinion, see what the rest of the panel thinks of this tasty treat.

Partial Transcript:
"On Tap - Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale

Hi. I'm James Knott and this is your Better Beer Authority. Today we are talking about Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale from Alltech's Lexington Brewing Company in Lexington, Kentucky. This beer is Kentucky Ale aged for 4-8 weeks in spent bourbon barrels. You can learn more about Kentucky Ale in our last episode.

By law, bourbon must be aged in a new, charred oak barrel. Once the barrel is spent it can no longer be used for aging bourbon. Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale is aged in these barrels until a taster at the brewery decides that it is ready. Maker's Mark, Old Forrester & Woodford Reserve are just a few of the whiskies that once resided in these barrels.

This beer is and 8.2% ABV. The company says the aging imparts flavors of vanilla and oak and recommends sipping it out of a snifter as an apertif or as an after dinner drink.

  • I prefer for my beer to taste like beer, not bourbon. If I wanted bourbon, I'd drink a glass of bourbon.

  • @ridgewayn2 It's definitely not for everyone. I had this beer again recently and really enjoyed, but it was nothing like I remembered it. Much sweeter than I remembered.

  • This beer is the worst beer I've ever tasted. Is this an advertisement by the way?

  • @parrotsnest No. This is an independent review. I liked this beer.

  • I'm wondering if barrel aged beers are starting to become gimmicky?

  • @ChadzBeerReviews I don't know if it's a gimmick, but it was delicious!

He must drink Bud or Coors. This beer is pretty solid. Maybe not an A or B+ but solid enough. Cheers.

  • Great Beer! Drink it out of a snifter or a wine glass and let it foam just a little to unlock the aroma.

  • Great Beer!

  • @novabeerfly Great Beer!
