  • I agree for the most part, people do what they are told, that is why people are still being told and believe in the 3000 mile drain. Working in a shop, you also know how oil has undergone a lot of changes over the years as the specs have moved from SG to SL to SM, etc. Technology changes and so does oil, much of that being forced on to companies by the EPA. But you are right about conventional oil breaking down, it relies mostly on the additives, even most of the synthetics out there.

  • This is such bullshit. Thinks about it. The government wants you to change your oil less to help the environment. The car companies want you to change your oil less so your engine with wear out faster, thus forcing you to buy a new car! The EPA wins...the car companies win... YOU LOSE. Conventional motor oil starts to break down at 1500 miles, not 7500!! I work at a quick lube shop and I see it everyday. People just do what they are told, not what common sense tells them.
