Someone once said to me they hoped they died before me. I guess it's an expression of love and the desire to avoid pain, but nothing is permanent. if we love we will also suffer at some point, unless, as you say, we go first.

You're welcome. I think people often feel they must offer some kind of solution or make the other feel 'better' when all that is really needed is a compassionate ear.

I was not there when my father died. It all happened very suddenly. You have a unique opportunity to go on a journey that many will never experience, and that even more would be reluctant to undertake...

I wasn't there when my fathr died either, and i as quite different from this (obviously). It is a unique experience, very costly in many ways, but well worth the travelling.

then again if i think about it the worst thing that could happen is my daughter to die before me that would be even worse.

Yes, far worse. I've met people who have lost a child and I think that's something you can never fully recover from, whereas losing a parent may be devastating but is more part of the scheme of things.
