Dvla are removing untaxed vehicles from a kent estate. Along with 3 police and a dvla rep they are removing any car that has a expired tax disc. It is removing any cars with a tax disc that expired more than 14 days ago. Think this is not fair but you decide what you think ?
There is no such thing as road tax. It has not existed since the 1930's when Winston Churchill abolished it , as he didn't want motorist to think they owned the road. Roads are payed for through central taxation & council tax.

Id quod nostrum est, sine facto nostro ad alium transferi non potest. What belongs to us cannot be transferred to another without our consent. Dig. 50, 17, 11. But this must be understood with this qualification, that the government may take property for public use, paying the owner its value. The title to property may also be acquired, with the consent of the owner, by a judgment of a competent tribunal.

@gcp870264 Considering having a car is actually optional, you agree to all these rules when you get your licence.
And excuses excuses... most cars around without tax are pretty much being driven, the "but it's on my drive" is a poor excuse.
VED is silly anyway, levy it on fuel duty, pay as you drive then... no administration costs on the system either (or enforcement, adverts, etc).
As for not public land, you can still be done for dangerous driving in a supermarket car park...so guess what...

I agree completely, motorists seem to be a target for everyone these days. As for the risks, not really. If the land was ever made part of public highway then we'd have known about it beforehand and would've got the car started and removed it. Instead the council (illegally) declared it public and allowed the DVLA on it. It is actually still (and always will be) private, and there have been several angry public meetings about this issue....No worries, no offence taken

So the REAL issue here is 'is the land upon which you chose to park your SORN declared vehicle 'private' or in fact a 'public highway'? Surely, if this issue has been going on for the fifteen years you mention, did it not occur to you that you would be running a risk? Unfortunately these days, if you're a motorist, you're a target - moving or otherwise and you MUST cross the T's and dot the I's to be fireproof. Sorry if I came across a bit strong. I do sympathise and didn't wish to cause offence

The land I was keeping it on was (and still is) private. The council (Powys) have always disputed this but every time they have been challenged in court they've lost. This has been going on the last 15 at least, years to my knowledge. Yet they still allowed the DVLA to come on the land and tow away 3 different cars even though it is not a public highway. And considering I co-own a company with 7 vehicles, and drive for a living, i'm well aware of the responsibilities thank you.

The rules relating to correct vehicle licensing and SORN declarations are made crystal clear by DVLA. You simply have to read the appropriate publications and information which are readily available in written and online forms. Owning and using a vehicle within the law is a responsible undertaking. That's the bit everyone chooses to ignore. But doesn't that go for 99% of people today? "People choose NOT to be able to read when it suits their purpose". Put some effort into getting it right!!!
