Ferri-Murru Giselle rehearsal and interviews (1 of 2)

In this video you will see some rehearsals with Alessandra Ferri and Massimo Murru in the Giselle pas de deux, coached by Patrice Bart. There are also some interviews with all three of them in French and Italian, I have translated them:

Patrice Bart: In the history of ballet, I believe, that Giselle represents more than anything the chef d'oeuvre of romantic ballet. In the ballet, the principal roles don't have the interiority and violence. And I believe that the connection between the power and the violence of the characters and the view of romantism has made something soft and pleasant. I believe that that mix works very well, and I believe that that's the reason Giselle is one of the most beautiful ballets.

voice: We are in the big studio of La Scala, a few weeks before the premier; the young dancers are rehearsing the second act. They learn to become wilis, the creatures of the unreal world Giselle joins after her death. These engaged girls pulled away from their weddings (? I'm not entirely sure), are only seen at night and kill, by the order of their queen, the first man seen in their circle. Giselle will stand up to the queen and save Albrecht (this last sentence was translated very freely :P), and will disappear again in the night.

The grand pas de deux was built up with the most lyrical, the most beautiful moments of the ballet. Alessandra Ferri and Massimo Murru both graduated from the ballet school of La Scala. Alessandra is a star nowadays, prima ballerina assoluta, she has danced Giselle in every theatre of the world with renowned partners. Tonight she will dance Giselle for the first time at La Scala. Massimo is 24 years old, he is one of the promising young dancers of the company.

Alessandra Ferri: Giselle is the woman who succeeds at forgiving the man who wasn't faithful and who made her die. The death of Giselle in the first act, I think of it as a symbolic death; you leave story the ballet tells aside, but on the symbolic side it's a psychologic death, it's the death you have to pass to live and to really be a woman.

Massimo Murru: In the role of Albrecht, I believe there is one of the strongest transformations of the romantic roles in classical ballet. I believe that's the hardest thing to incorporate and to transfer to the audience.

When I read all these comments about the music sounding so much better on the piano alone, I was thinking there should be other things to to comment on, but boy was I wrong. It is sooooo beautiful on a solo piano :))
