Treason pertains to an act of disloyalty. An Australian citizen cannot be defined as being disloyal to the USA, where the USA is considered to be a foreign state. And thus, the term 'treason' can only pertain to a citizen of the affected country. I think that this error demonstrates Mike Rogers' somewhat limited intellect. Furthermore, American talk of executing a foreign whistle-blower is very unwise, given the growing international distrust of the USA.

What about the troops and generals who committed ridiculous acts in Afghanistan and Iraq, many of which are supposedly detailed in these documents?? Should they not also be tried and put to death??? This is crazy! Are American troops in foreign countries somehow above the law? If these documents detail massive human rights abuses, the people who executed that SHOULD BE PUNISHED! End of story. War is no justification to give up your morals.
