Just saw him at the Deutsche Oper Berlin this weekend... incredible performance, even if his voice has its share of rough edges. There is youth in his timbre and he cut through the orchestra with ease. Fabulous actor.

its so intense! peter is great... everything.. UNTIL this lame conductor who ever it is, ruins the whole thing when he starts the joyous chorus of the young pilgrims in a tempo where even old pilgrims would die !!!.. where is the joy?? where is the power? oh my god.. a way to ruin a great scene!! thank you!

@tenoreDB it's "in den Venusberg drangen wir ein" which means "we entered the hill of Venus", but "drangen wir ein" is similar with "we penetrated", at least in german, so it might be meant as a lustful roar (I don't know, if Venushill has the same meaning in english as in german, but that's what one calls the hairy triangle of a woman - if one is in a poetic mood, that is).
And don't listen to kugelwürfel, he's just kidding.

That ist quite ok. Because it means not: "In venus berg trangen wihr ein", but "Im Venusberg tranken wir einen". Therefore he was a little bit drunk, you know!

huh what happens to seiffert in the beginning when he sings "in venus berg trangen wihr ein" on the " trangen is a sounds that sounds like a roar : wreally strange

This is one of my favorite operas and is beautifully sung. But I have one quibble with this version: the stick being waved in Tannhauser's face at the end doesn't look ANYTHING like what it's supposed to be -- the staff of the pope, sprouting fresh green leaves as a sign from God that Tannhauser's soul had been saved.

I meant, who's singing wolfram?
tannhauser's close buddy

I was on stage when he sang it at the Zurich opera house. I loved it. He sings with so much fire. It is not necessary that every note is beautiful.
