WOODBINE-- The pilot of a Pitts aerobatic aircraft was airlifted after he crashed the bi-plane he was flying approximately one quarter mile from the Woodbine airport on Thursday, June 25, around 6:20 p.m.

The mangled wreckage was found off Frederickstadt Ave. The Woodbine Fire Department had to extricate the pilot using the Jaws-of-Life.

Sgt. Julian Castellanos, a state police spokesman, said the pilot, identified as Neville J. Hogan, 60, of Sudbury, Mass., was conscious when emergency crews arrived.

Belleplain Emergency Corps and Atlanticare paramedics treated Hogan on scene before he was transported to the Woodbine airport to be airlifted. South Star medevac airlifted the pilot to Atlanticare Regional Medical Centers trauma unit in Atlantic City.

The flight crew reported the Hogan to be a 60 year-old male in stable condition with a possible head injury.

Castellanos said Hogan was flying from Massachusetts to Cape May. No one else was aboard the plane. No one on the ground was injured.

The accident is under investigation by the New Jersey Department of Transportation, Division of Aeronautics and troopers at the Woodbine station.

  • @lavakava Small planes are fine. If you want to ban something, ban motorcycles, they have a much higher death/hours of use ratio.

(For the record, I do not support the banning of either)

  • OMG, that poor beautiful Pitts! :-(

  • WOW

  • Sorry I just ment lavakavatard not everybody

  • Your all fucking dumbasses I bet none of you have ever flown an airplane in your life

  • If i was the owner i would be more emotionaly injured because of crashing something like that than i would physicaly be. :'(

  • You are right- flying is risky. So is getting out of bed in the morning.

That was a beautiful airplane, freshly refurbished and painted, but operated by an ass-hat pilot who was attempting to operate an internal combustion engine on air alone- you can do it, but not very far.........

    happens everyday in cars-

The most powerful force on earth is water, not gravity....hence the Grand Canyon.

  • @efnosmoke

thats why flying is risky. most ppl who get killed in flying are smart people (engineers, doctors, lawyers). its not dumbass drunk teenagers like in cars. problem with flying is G-R-A-V-I-T-Y...the most powerful force on earth and combine that with an unreliable piston airplane, and chances are a disaster is waiting to happen.

  • @sexton1973

    ofcourse guns should be banned!

  • @lavakava are you dumb?
