Who's to say Donald Trump's next apprentice won't come from the College of Staten Island now that CSI has launched a highly successfull master's prgoram in business management.

The 30-credit curriculum is CSI's 19th graduate program, and the business department's first. It will offer courses in financial management, administrative process and financial and managerial accounting.

Classes will accommodate 20 to 25 students with undergraduate degrees in business, accounting and related fields.

Professor Laura Novak, business department chairwoman, said the program will help students seeking a certified public accounting license get the 30 additional credit hours required. She added that while public colleges in other boroughs offer similar programs, this will be the first of its kind on Staten Island.

Michael Troncone, a member of an alumni panel making a presentation about success in business to about 450 students, said he would have stayed at CSI for the program instead of going somewhere else.

"It's a great idea, and makes their strong business program stronger," Troncone said.

Professor Richard Prinzi Jr., an alumnus who manages his own accounting firm and three businesses besides, said focusing on management makes terrific sense for accounting students seeking their CPAs.

"Many public accountants will run their own practices, Prinzi said. "But the undergraduate CPA course load only allows students to take one class in management. I wish I'd had this training."

The program courses also will support the college's new urban health science master's program, leading to positions in health administration and management.
