VICTORIA - The agency that oversees discipline for BC teachers is facing a review after allegations it's being controlled by the BC Teachers Federation.
Education Minister Margaret MacDiarmid appointed the fact finder today.
The request for the review came from the college council itself but is supported by parent advisory councils, school trustees and school principals.
The new fact finder is Victoria lawyer Don Avsion.
It will be his job to find out if the college is doing its job, something that's been called into question by its own chairman. Richard Walker has pointed out that in seven years, 270 complaints were made against teachers, but not one of those complaints resulted in discipline.
The teachers union says it welcomes bringing in a fact finder, in hopes his work will shed light on what the BCTF calls "a manufactured crisis."
Opposition Leader Carole James doesn't see an issue with it either.
The fact finder will have the summer to complete his work, and must report back to the education minister by September 17.
