but what happens if the bomb explodes just after you jump to assassinate him? do you die when you hit the ground?

@ThePipoterr if you start the air assassination too early, the target dies from the explosion and ezio's falls straight down.

@bebei0000 i havent checked, but i doubt it. the bomb is likely coded to go off after 5 sec. i'll check to make sure some time. thx for asking bebei.
