This morning, the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee held a forum to highlight the urgent need for comprehensive health insurance reform. Speaker Pelosi offers her opening remarks.

Nancy Pelosi is a communist and is destroying this country.

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that hasn't read it but exempts themselves from it, to be signed by a president who also smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke.

What the hell could possibly go wrong?

@zeedrippyvessel -Overwhelmingly the majority voted FOR health care, that is why it past. Why are you against the bill? Because it mandates everyone to buy insurance? Get over it, everyone needs to have health insurance at some point in there life. "Oh we can't afford it".....calm down you will get some help.

notice the mistake of stating health care and then correcting. dems know it is a step by step process. their whole intention is be the sole guidance on health care decisions. once that is done,they will be the puppeteers of the largest voting block, those over 50. the brits, and everyone with shortsightedness, spouts "moral imperative" as a reason for having socialist style health care. on the money side, she is lying as to reducing costs/increasing efficiency. that is becoming clearer everyday.

@judyleasugar97 - Did you read the bill? I did! You need to. You've been drinking the koolaid! Healthcare will be rationed, you no longer have any choice about your healthcare, some beaurocrat will decide for you and if you're one of the 84% with health insurance, your costs have already gone UP, will continue to go up and your quality will go down! Socialized healthcare hasn't worked ANYWHERE! stop listening to MSNBC and research/read the bill. It should make you sick! It made me sick!

@transending17 - the majority did not WANT this bill. We were QUITE vocal we did not want and did our elected leaders listen? No they did not! The deficit the Obama WHINES so pitiously about was brought on by a DEMOCRAT run Congress and in that time they've spent our money like it's theirs! I can not WAIT for November! the more government we have in our lives is the less freedom we have!

I would like to say that the back bone of our economy is still, hard working middle class families. This house of reps has done more for our country in the first 3 years then in the 8 years when the republicans controlled congress. I think it is important that we show better respect for our country then to use the kind of terms that I see some making about elected officials. Our Speaker of the House is the first Woman Speaker in History. We as democratic majority thank her for her leadership!
