http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBfVZF... for "high quality" video.

This is kind of a response to another video that was uploaded a year ago, but this one I knew about. ;-) Some time ago, I let my friend borrow my save file from Dragon Warrior VII (known as "Dragon Quest VII: Warriors of Eden" in Japan). Now see, this is exactly why I stay the heck away from MMORPGs, and am very careful any time I want an RPG with a class system. But this is Dragon Quest, so I couldn't deny the long sequel of my childhood RPG! In fact, I bought my PSOne just for this game (and secondarily, Blaster Master: Blasting Again). Anyway, my friend wanted to show everyone my save file, so he put up this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdg1WV...

I've done everything in this game short of getting 50 of every item possible and killing 999 of every monster (killing 999 of any monster makes it so you can simply cancel any battle with them; pretty spiffy, actually. Only downside is it takes too long loading the battle up, then loading the world map). I've put together every immigrant town, mastered every class (including every monster class) with every character, learned every hybrid skill, completed the monster book, collected at least one of every item, etc.. If you've ever played DQ7, you'd know how insane that is. You'll notice that my characters still have missing spots in their skill sets; a few skills and spells are exclusive to certain characters in this game. They're usually not extremely powerful, anyway.

So 800+ hours, huh? Well, yes. But that includes idling the PSOne while I ate dinner, or do chores, or chatting on AIM. In fact, a lot of the stuff I did while chatting one with particular person; she'd get mad at me every time she asked me what I was doing and I told her "talking to you and playing DW7," even if I was chatting with her first and playing second. I'd even play tricks on her sometimes, and mix her up with whether I was or wasn't playing the game. ;-) It was pretty fun.

Well this save file is very old (6+ years), but I'll explain what I'm doing in the game. Basically against God, I'm using MegaMagic, the most powerful attack in the game. It consumes ALL of your MP and converts it into raw damage. MP * 3 = damage. It's a skill you'd normally only have one character learn in the game as you get it from Rosevine, and throughout the normal game you only get enough hearts for one character to learn that class. But if you grind/farm a lot for low-level hearts and work your way up from the other monster classes, you can get it for everybody. Then I'm using SwordDance, a totally broken hybrid skill earned by mastering/making up in Dancer/Warrior consecutively (in either order). There's no need to do anything else, although I find most of the skills and spells have some use in the game. SwordDance just happens to be the best free damage you can reliably do to a single foe without thinking. WoePriest has the highest MP bonus in the game, meaning it brings you to 999 MP the fastest. Fittingly, the highest rank of WoePriest is "God Hater." It's not really a good physical class; for that I prefer Budou (they've got the best STR bonus and can steal after battles).

Is it possible to beat God in 1 turn? No. He takes about 600-800 damage after I use my last MegaMagic, and there's no way to make up the difference by increasing max MP. I'd need to increase my party's MP by about 250, but I can only do it about another 50. So 2 turns is as fast as you can do it. And yes, I can do physical damage more effectively; I'm not currently equipped with weapons that are particularly good at attacking single enemies. But I don't care since I get the job done just the same, and there's no way to shave it down to 1 turn anyway.

I chose the Fillet because Gabo said he was hungry. There are some funnier quotes, but I didn't want to bore everyone with Talking all the time. Plus I was running out of HDD space while recording. If you Talk 3 times before the start of the turn, the enemy will attack and you've basically given up the turn.

Oh, tip for the 1 or 2 people out there who will want to have a save file like mine: when farming for hearts, never use a Thief, Pirate, or Budou. You can get a monster drop/steal OR a monster heart at the end of a battle, never both. So if you're stealing from battle, you're not getting a heart from that battle. And yes, stealing/drop chances are calculated first from my experience. You CAN steal with ThiefHit and get a Heart, but it has an extremely low rate. Thanks to the game saving your cursor positions for skill/spell categories, it's not that much more effort to use that instead of Attack, though.

About defeating God in 1 turn: I've tried numerous strategies involving Blade Armor and Sacrifice Armbands, but I can't get any of them to close the hypothetical 412 HP gap adequately.
