In a sunny day one can get 1000 w/m2 of solar energy, usually much less. The electric cells have efficiency of about 10%, so to get 1200MW (an average power plant) it is necessary 12,000,000 m2 (12km2) of solar cells.
Currently the cars do not use much electric energy but if they start to, the need for electric power can increase a lot.
Solar energy is good for home though.

What is this black guy talking about? The 50 cent on the dollar spent on energy can be reduced to zero with solar energy. Riz is right, this dude is a chatterbox for Exxon Mobil
