Hahn is too young to have experienced the ups and downs of life which are at the root this VC. Ferras had the right psyche, if one can call severe depression a blessing, but arts almost require suffering of some sort.

You are not right at all, evgeny kissin's tchaikovsky piano concerto, the one he played with karajan, is one of the greatest of all times, and we all know that tchaikovsky demands "the right psyche"

Nods. Her version is solid and she's a treasure no doubt, but Ferras' sound and spirit lives every time I hear this piece. His vibrato and intensity is so controlled but still so human it makes me shudder every time I hear it.

Granted, Hilary Hahn is one of the most gifted violinists of her generation. Precocious gift, too. But what is truly remarkable about this version is that she plays the correct rhythm in the middle section!!! This is worth listening to.

this is one of the most sweet and tragic second slow movement of classical violin repertoire all time and when I think that she's only 14 years old ..ops...it makes me shudder ...the music is truly a gift given by a superior spirit...brava Hilary
