Sorry for my poor camera work, I took this with my Android phone right after I got it and didn't realize that I needed to hold it horizontally.. I just wanted more than anything to share the awesome sound of three General Electric CF6-50C2B engines generating 54,000 lbs/thrust each as we departed empty from an airport in the very southeast corner of Virginia. There was the standard cockpit compliment of three, and three of us deadheading in the back after a long trip from Africa. This is a 1988 model DC-10-30 ER and is one of the last to roll off the Long Beach production line in March of that year. Only 8 more DC-10 would be built after this one and it's been an honor to have the opportunity to fly her. Admittedly, the -30's sound is quieter than the -10 was with their three GE CF6-6C engines generating 39,300 lbs/thrust but it does come close! Thanks for watching.
@hotelgulf and thank you for the nice comment. Something has facinated me about the DC-10 since the first time I got to fly on one in 1987 and now it's one of my most privileged accomplishments to be able to pilot one. They are at the end of their journey though and it won't be long before the last US passenger carrying DC-10 is retired but I feel fortuate to have been part of it.

I flew many DC-10's cross country on American Airlines. When introduced AA flew an evening fleet familiarization flight from Syracuse, New York to LaGuardia, NYC (at 10:10pm). Super comfortable and fascinating to fly aboard. Also the BEST engine sounds, I sat in just ahead of the engine on the left side many times. Thanks for posting.
