This is a song meant for a Kindergartener's graduation ceremony. 'Mou sugu ichinen sei' means 'Soon, we will be Grade 1/primary school students.' It is from the CD 'NHK

I chose to upload this particular song because April is the start of a new fiscal year for Japan.. and also the start of a new school year. Much tears will be shed this season for the students moving up to Junior high school.. leaving 6 years of fun, frolic and memories behind. But the circle begins again for the fresh faced, cute little 6 year olds to start the journey that each child must inevitably travel.

*Lyrics*

Spoken:-
Itsu no koto daka, omoidashite goran~
Anna koto konna koto, atta desho~!

Itsu no koto daka, omoidashite goran~
Try and remember..
Anna koto konna koto, atta desho
All of the things that happened to you
Ureshi katta koto, omoshirokatta koto
Times when you were happy, and times when you marvelled at the world
Itsu ni natte mo, wasure nai
I bet you will never ever forget them~ no matter how much time passes by!

Haru no koto desu, omoidashite goran~
Remember Spring, do you think you can try?
Anna koto konna koto, atta desho
When many different kinds of things happened
At the sun drenched park, for example, where you played with your friends
Kirei na hana mo, saite ita
And where the beautiful flowers bloomed~

Natsu no koto desu, omoidashite goran~
And Summer! Remember Summer?!
Anna koto, konna koto, atta desho~
When many different kinds of things happened
Mugiwara boushi de, minna hadakanbo
You played with your light straw hat and took off your clothes on the beach
O fune mo mitayo, suna yama mo~
Why, you even saw a boat and sand castles too!

Aki no koto desu, omoidashite goran~
Now Autumn.. remember Autum too..
Anna koto konna koto, atta desho~
When you discovered all kinds of new stuff?
Donnguri yama no, haikingu rarara
Accorn hills! Hiking! Lalala
Akai happa mo, tonde ita
And pretty red/russet leaves blowing in the wind!

Fuyu no koto desu, omoidashite goran~
Ohh and Winter.. remember Winter??
Anna koto konna koto, atta desho~
Many new experiences too!
Momi no ki kazatte, Merry Christmas-u
Decorated Fir trees.. Merry Christmas!
Santa no ojiisan, Waratteta
And good ole Santa laughed (at the merry sight)

Fuyu no koto desu, omoidashite goran~
Ahh Winter, oh Winter.. you do remember Winter, right?
Anna koto konna koto, atta desho~
New experiences in Winter too, uh~
Samui yuki no hi, attakai heya de
On very cold Winter days, in a warm house..
Tanoshii hanashi, kikimashita
You listened, entertained and entranced by the stories told..

Ichi nen ju wo, omoidashite goran~
Now try and remember the entire year
Anna koto konna koto, atta desho~
Try and remember everything that has happened to you~
Momo no hana mo, kireii ni saita
When peach blossoms were in full bloom
Mou sugu minna wa, ichi nen sei
And now soon, you too, will be a grade 1 student~!

Note:- I tried to capture the essence of this song as an adult sitting with a child.. reminiscing. So this is NOT a direct word-for-word translation. Any mistakes made are mine, and mine enitrely. Thank you for understanding.

  • Thank you for uploading this wonderful song, Michiko san.

How many times we have sung this wonderful song while our children were little.

Your pictures of children and this song remind me of those good old days.

A daughter of one of our children is now going to leave her primary school, and is becoming a first year of junior high school this spring.

  • Very sweet and charming children, song and video. Congratulations and best wishes to you with your valuable and important work in caring for and educating your young people.
