In Search of History - The Aztec Empire Part 5

When explorer Hernan Cortés arrived in the New World in 1519, he found the present-day nation of Mexico dominated by the Aztecs. Highly skilled farmers, builders, and merchants, they were also savage warriors who practiced human sacrifice. Listen as leading scholars trace the rise of the Aztecs from a band of just over 1,000 to the dominant culture of ancient America and learn how the Spanish were able to hasten the fall of this mighty society in mere months. Tour the great temple of Tenochtitlan, where ongoing excavations are unraveling some of the enduring enigmas of the Aztecs, and discover the culture's continued influence in Mexico today. THE AZTEC EMPIRE explores the riveting history of a civilization that rose to dominate nearly all of Mexico in just 400 years.

  • Thanks for posting one could only think what could have been in The Spanish Inquisition had never happend. They might have been a great nation even today! I hope one day the remaining Aztecs decide on building a great city once again for them to stay in and worship their gods as they once did.

  • @KevinArcade Probably not - as they used their barbarous, murderous practices to depopulate the males in the conquered/tributary areas so as to reduces their military manpower capacity.

    "To their standards" indeed...

  • @TheLoyalOfficer They would propably have advanced beyond that and moved on to animal sacrifice instead. We will never know. The Aztec never allied with the Spaniards it were the Tlaxcala that alied with them.

I'm just saying to our standards its brutal but to their standards it was acceptable. Not that people feared them.. and that a lot of people did suffer, but that's just their way of living.

  • @KevinArcade Oh yeah so it's acceptable behavior? Ever wonder for a moment why over 50,000 native warriors sided with the Spaniards?

You have a strange set of ethics - "if it was acceptable under their barbarous civilization, then, even in 2011, they should return to those mass murder practices..."

    Wow.

  • @TheLoyalOfficer Sure why not. It's what was accepted in their culture..

  • @misterbearbe Complete with the heart cuttings? Yeah, that's right - bring back the savagery.

  • @pifkf

    I'll take that as a compliment :-)

  • @LobsterPotsticker so have i

and i belive and know my research is correct

  • @ConquestAztec I know that dude

I said You could have figured you were wrong by simply google searching

meaning you've obviously never studied it in your entire life

which I've spent basically the past 2 years doing

  • @LobsterPotsticker a simple google search is what youve done and got simple yet wrong information.

you gatta spend hours looking through the net and reding books, not just look for a "simple" answer for your questions.

and fyi, wikipedia is a website for anyone to upload info, so dont even try there

  • @ConquestAztec wow you're either trolling or stupid.

a simple google search lays waste to all of your arguments.
