A Jelly Roll Morton tune I learned off the 1964 Album "The Blues Project" played by Ian Buchanan. It's mostly his arrangement with some of my own over indulgence thrown in.

  • Without any doubt, Ian would have approved of your wonderful version. True to the genre in every way! .

  • @Bluelight57th I appreciate that and glad you enjoyed my take on it.- Frank

  • In my humble opinion Buchanan's version was the definitive guitar version anyway of "Winin' Boy Blues." He was just an excellent picker and you do his version a great justice. I am curious, what are the chords played at the beginning ot the tune, barred at the fifth fret. It looks like you're playing a Dm chord and then another before progressing down the neck (towards the nut).

  • @bison851 Glad you enjoyed my take. Ian Buchanan has always been one of my favorites.

    The descending chords are:

(5th Fret)G7, Fmaj7, G, D7, G7...(slide up to 7thFret) D, Bb (Fmaj7 works there too), G, C. I hope that works out for you. Stay in touch and let me know. Thanks again- Frank Fotusky

  • Love David and all, but for me this has always been Ian Buchanan's. Your arrangement is completely reminiscent, and then you go so much further. Really inventive, I could listen to this one all day - if it weren't for your Teasin' CD, which demands attention as well. And yeah, that old Elektra album was a great one. Still have it, just afraid to play it anymore.

  • @tropaes Thanks and glad you enjoyed it. New CD to be out soon. Stay tuned.- Frank

  • Frank, my pleasure. I knew Ian for many years. He was a prodigious talent and wonderful teacher. Hope to see you perform in person in the future. Thanks for the great performance.

  • I"ve been working from the Ian Buchanan version myself. Nice job here. I think I can learn a bunch from checking out your left hand. Thanks.

  • @danlaww Dan- Glad you enjoyed it. If you know of some venues out your way that host this type of music, let me know I'd love to get to WI. Thanks again.- Frank

  • @Chubtray Let's say a "Windin' Boy" is how he works his wedding tackle.

  • Gee, all this time I thought the title was "Whinin' Boy". Does it count as an interpretation when the title and lyrics are changed? Does the song have the same meaning now that the title and lyrics are changed? Is it the same song? What the heck is a "Windin" Boy" anyway? Shoot.
