Trittico - Nehlybel performed by McAllen High School 1969. They were honor band that year. LM Snavely director. Snavely later was director at Notre Dame.
You know, I came here expecting to hear something that was above and beyond what is happening at the state honor band level in this day and age. I'm very familiar with Nelhybel's Trittico and what I am hearing is an incredible performance that is definitely worthy of the Texas Honor Band name, but I think one of the top bands in Texas like Duncanville or Marcus could top this performance today.
# 2 - This was 1969....after 41 years, let's hope music education has improved and upped the level of musicianship, but its doubtful that the current level is much higher this...
Duncanville's TMEA performance in 2008 and Langham Creek's performance in 2006 are at a higher quality of musicianship than this. Not by much, but it's noticeable.

@takigan Well what's more important is reality.

Haven't heard Duncanville but Langham Creek's was slow, unexciting, and wimpy, and those are the bright spots....

Yes, that's correct. - along with Smith, Bolls, and Ratley, who were at the junior highs. What a great team and band program that was!
