Arietta by Vincenzo Bellini (1801-1835), Catania's born famous opera composer - "Malinconia, Ninfa gentile", first from six, Sei Ariette op. 95, words by the Italian poet Ippolito Pindemonte (1753-1828), were apparently influenced by the old Greek mythology about Ipolitus who was raised by a forest-nymph. The poet speaks about his sacred and forbidden desire, which he will not dare to make it realize.
The piece bears an unsolved problem to the performers (pianist + vocalist), because of the clash between the perpetum-mobile in the piano part, against the marked Allegro agitato + contradicting lyricism in the vocalist's part.
Rosa Wol regrets her mistake in singing "monte" (mountains) instead of "fonte" (fountains) in measure 39
Sung at a home for aged in Ramat-Gan (April 2008), by Rosa Wol (21), soprano, who was visiting in Bellini's Museum in Catania-Sicilia (summer 2001), where Bellini was born and raised. The pictures taken by her father, show the Museum, Catania, the Etna volcano and its surroundings.
At the piano: Riva Wolkowicz

  • very nice!

  • @Artemide651 Thanks :)

  • Wonderful Bellini!! And such a stunning voice!

(Waiting to hear your Mimi, Liu, Juliette, etc.... on international stage! :-))

    איפה את לומדת?

  • Thanks a lot. I did Mimi in my highschool-days (and even Juliette), but in the Jerusalem-Music-Academy my vocal-teacher directed me to coloratura-singing. I didn't forget those aria, though, and hope to sing them again.

  • viele grüsse Rosa, sende dir una arietta als übung für instrumentale klang...du bist eine Sängerin mit talent, gute actress und persona simpatica. alles gute Gottes Segen.vk

  • yes

  • This is a lied not an aria.

  • I think that cantatore11 was referring to the lack of legato due to the frequent breathing eg if you listen to jose carreras in the opening phrase you will note that there are no breathing pauses whereas you breath four times.

  • Come to think of it - maybe today I would do it in another way (I'm still a student - it depends also on the vocal-teacher's influence), but you must admit that this ARIETTA is on the borderline between Aria and Lied.
