I arrived at Fort Foster at Hillsborough River in the early morning of March 6th, 2010 to do a couple fort tours for the park volunteer appreciation picnic. I arrived before the soldiers and started a fire to warm up. My outfit is Seminole 1830s.
Fort Foster is one of two reconstructed 2nd Seminole War forts, on the original site of the fort. Built in 1837, it is named after Col. William S. Foster of the 4th Infantry. It replaced earlier Fort Alabama. The fort guarded the crossing on the Hillsborough River, as part of the military road that went 100 miles from Fort Brooke on Tampa Bay to Fort King in present day Ocala, Florida.
