This is a sound design experiment to imagine a musical notation system that translates a composition by Meredith Monk into movement gestures. The music is performed by six voices, bass clarinet and bass drum. I tried to create as literally as possible a unique gesture for the different sounds. Since movement in physical space travels from point A to point B with certain flow restrictions, I used video editing to try to capture specific notes as well as the overall feel of the music. To complete the experiment I am curious to hear what kind of music would be composed based on the video. This is a project for Sound Design class with Frank Dufour at UT Dallas.

  • Very artistic. I appreciate the step you took out of the common artist's box. Thanks. I very much enjoy the video. I would like to know how you approached the problem of matching movement to simultaneous layers of various musical themes in the music.

  • great! really interesting experiment
