MUNICH, GERMANY - JANUARY 21: The herd of elephants say goodbye to Lola the dead elephant calf at Hellabrunn Zoo on January 21, 2012 in Munich, Germany. A baby elephant who tragically died at a German zoo is brought back before her herd so they can say goodbye. Lola, a three month old elephant, died on 21st January 2012, during a CT scan ahead of an operation to fix a serious heart defect. Lola's body was brought back to the herd at Hellabrunn Zoo in Munich, on Saturday afternoon, so that her mother, Panang (22), could say her goodbyes to her in peace. Afterwards the herd gently nuzzled the lifeless body with their trunks and took their leave of her.

  • @ThisCallsforaToaster In addition to this, zoos are the only way for most people to see animals, and a good way for them to be inspired to do something to help preserve their wild environment. If there were no zoos, most people would never see wild animals, and as a result, wouldn't care about them.

  • TO ALL YOU HATING ON ZOOS:

Its actually illegal for zoos to cage animals that can fend for themselves in the wild. Animals in zoos are there because they were either injured or were born there. If born there, there is little hope for them to be let out in the wild simply b/c their lives in captivity are so different.

  • 1:34 ohhhh i just guttah take the last sniff at her butt hole

  • @squorntheretard but a lion that doesnt track its prey and kill it isnt a lion. its own life of being a predator has been traded in for some shitty enclosure all for some school kids amusement on a school trip. you could still watch these animals, on video. theres no need to take them away from where nature put them.

  • that made me cry. I want a pet like an elephant but a small one. Can they breed elephant to the smallest elephant? like dogs.

  • Admit that you cried like a little b*tch,

  • @slash795 I think that elephant is necrophiliac xD

  • @Joraulpema123 lmaoo i did not see that until you pointed it out!

  • the elephant died on my 14th birthday...

  • @qphamdo animals do grief once a soldier died his dog was with him it got all depressed and died off stress the next day true story

  • @squorntheretard I can see your point. But zoos are there for profit on a daily basis. They're not sanctuaries or shelters. They are no different to circuses where wild animals are enclosed, immobilised and only serve to entertain humans. If you want to see a closer look at animals, get off your couch and go to Africa or other places where you may get the chance to see them "naturally" doing what they do in their own habitat or watch documentaries.

  • People forget that animals grieve as well...
