Latest video and info: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yF2VrJGRJF8

Here is the latest incarnation of my attempt to make an real time strategy game.

Because of an apparent bug in the GE, when I reach the low frame rates while recording, there is problem with the user interface [i.e. code like this: keyBoard.getKeyStatus(GameKeys.MKEY)==GameLogic.KX_INPUT_JUST_ACTIVATED]

This makes it impossible for me to play while recording, so I developed a user interface recorder. It basically records every command you make and the position of the camera. This is why you cannot see the select box.

After completing this, it became apparent that the simulation is actually chaotic and not repeatable. While the camera would be looking exactly where I told it to be, the units could be in a totally different place. Thankfully, while making this video, the camera happened to be looking at the units.

This is surprising to me since I use two (collision and inertia) very simple algorithms for physics, instead of using bullet. I think it may have something to do with the collision code, but I am planning on replacing it. I have an idea to have the AI try and avoid each other at all costs, thus making collisions rare.

  • can you pass me the blend?

    pleaseeee

    thank you

  • @lucaaki I spent a bit to much time just to give it away. As I am starting to work on my own game engine, I may release the blend ... in a year ... or more.

  • omg i always wanted to make RTS, if you need help, i can help, but i dont know python language. Still i can make models and skin them, if you having problems to read it out, im bassically asking if we can team up

  • Yes, I could use help on the artistic side of things.

But, work on this has delayed significantly since I've started college. As such, I can't make any promises on development of this in the near future. Which may mean that any work you may do for the game could be wasted if I never finish this.

Anyway, the help would be greatly appreciated. I wouldn't mind to see some of your work.

    Thank you.

  • im just sometimes bored, if you want i can make better tank model then one you showed, but it can take little more to skin it

  • That would be nice, remember RTS models need to watch their poly count. Though, even with detailed models, I think it will still be my extensive python that will become the main bottleneck in the end.

You've re-intrigued me with this project, I may do some more work on it starting this Friday.
