Next to touring with their beloved Phish, the thing that most Phish Fans might enjoy most is kicking back and chilling to some irie roots reggae. So when the great legends of reggae inject their hypnotic drums and infectious bass-lines into these "jammin" renditions of Phish's most beloved songs, the result is an uplifting and groove oriented album that will have e a dramatic effect on "4:20 Sessions" for generations to come. Dub Like An Antelope" 'Legends of Reggae celebrate Phish' is an album that's real genius goes far beyond a catchy concept, it actually delivers some great music. This record hits the mark because every artist has as uncanny ability to deliver each song with an emotional connection as if it were written themselves. It's no surprise that a band as talented as Phish could write songs that have the ability to cross over into another musical genres, the real surprise is what amazing reggae song's they become, transformed on many levels both musically and spiritually. The album begins with Toots and the Maytals riveting, blues inspired Back on the Train, and is followed by Chalices afro-pop tinged Bouncing Around the Room which features King Yellowmans toasting skills as he rides the cool reggae groove. It is not until Steel Pulses Farmhouse when David Hinds wails woke this morning to the stinging lash, everyman rise from the ash.. that we realize these compositions connect on so many different levels. As the record continues a narrative develops, as both reggae legends and some of Jamaicas hottest new talent dive into the Phish catalog and bring new a swag to the songs. Wayne Armonds emotional Bug, Tessanne Chinss impassioned Free, and Bob Andy's heartfelt Waste" which rides, Sly Dunbar's timeless one drop drum pattern, are just a few standouts. Every song on "Dub" has a surprising twist around the corner or delivers a faithful homage to the original. Rising reggae stars Rootz Underground sound like they have a great time bashing babylon on Makisupa Policeman, and what maybe the biggest shock and delight to many is how great "Americas Got Talent" finalist Cas Haley sounds teamed up with sultry voiced reggae siren Tanya Stephens on the "hook heavy" Wolfmans Brother. This is a "win, win" for Phish and Reggae fans, both who will be satisfied with the music, the quality of the production, and the thought that went into matching the songs with the artists that perform them.
