How can traditional societies in Africa sustain? This question and many others will be discussed during our conference on November 27th from 9:30 till 17:00 in the Remonstrantse Church (Groningen, Netherlands): The future of traditional societies in Africa. A conference organized by students International Relations as part of a European Campaign coordinated by the French NGO ACTED, to raise awareness about the plight of pastoral societies in Africa and more especially in the Karamoja region of Uganda. Karamoja is a region in crisis where traditional semi-nomadic tribes are jeopardized and feared for their armed cattle-raids in the same time. It is a region where the many dimensions of 'development' and 'sustainability' unfold. Karamoja will be the case study in our conference which will feature keynote lectures, workshops, debates and documentaries. We're expecting many interesting speakers among which the ambassador of Uganda: Mirjam Blaak.
