Musicianship. In this era, there were people who maintained a tradition of discipline and held onto standards. Miles was, and is, the standard by which. This music stands the test of time, as any great art does. Miles was a great influence on a lot of great people. You can have blues without jazz, but you can never have jazz without blues. All good music has some blues in it. It is the vehicle by which musicians express themselves.

If you listen to most pop/rock of the 70s, you'd flee screaming. But then there was stuff like this. My brother and I would listen to Miles' Bitches Brew, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Larry Coryell, Weather Report, and this. There was a lot of beautiful, adventurous music being produced.

@FALKHET "Album" aka "Vinyl" or "Record" (noun) Inferior-quality analogue audio recording media that evokes a strong nostalgic response in many who remember the time prior to the 1980s (and a few who don't).

@dal4108,Jimi was huge influence in the jazz community. I know Lenny and Stan were. Not sure if Al and Chick were.

Romantic Warrior was the most important Jazz album of its day and here is why: It was the very first to open Jazz fusion on a large scale. Those who liked Jazz, Funk, Rock and even Disco were drawn to this most universal of works.
This album that began the era of popular, New York based Jazz. From 1976 to '83 acts like RTF, G Benson, H Hancock, Weather Report, Manhattan Transfer and many others crossed from great Jazz to pop music with uncanny ease. This album opened the door for it all.
