Knowing what a method actor Bale is, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he really shoved that thing up there to capture a real reaction. He is known for pushing the envelope in terms of preparation for a role. Anyone who could go from the size you see him in this movie to 120 lbs. for the Machinist, is a little crazy.

wish me luck kids. I'm totally doing this shit before my court hearing. Unlike Batman, I still have 2 weeks to sweat my ass off, drink water, drop 25 lbs. and take vitamins in addition.

@BeckhamBoston Probably didn't "shove it" as it were, but I'm 100% w/ you about the rest. His commitment and acting conviction is staggering (Holocaust thin for Machinist to cut badass for Batman in record time). To think, he was just that unassuming little boy in "Empire of the Sun"...whew, times change.
