Protesting 63 Years of Israeli Occupation of Palestine

This spring marks the 63rd year of the formal existence of Israel----63 years since the state of Israel was founded on stolen land that was ethnically cleansed of its native population. Palestinians term the occasion the 'Nakba' or 'catastrophe.' After all this time, they are still unable to return to their homeland, and are forced to remain under Israeli occupation where they are stripped of all basic human rights. In reality, the Nakba never ended, and continues to this very minute, to the seconds that pass as I type this letter.

While Zionists celebrate Israel's "Independence Day," we will be mourning the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who were forced from their homes, who were massacred, and who still suffer as a result of Israel's brutal policies. The Nakba continues because of US taxpayer funding of Israeli Apartheid.

For the rest of the world, Palestine is the key issue. It is the icon of the struggle for freedom and justice, as well as the icon of America's hypocrisy and imperialist policy. For Americans who are bewildered by hatred around the world towards the United States, the answers are obvious in Palestine.

The daily suffering of the Palestinian people is hardly ever front page news. If you tried to learn about the Israel-Palestine conflict through Western news only, you'd have no idea that the foremost issue is the illegal military occupation, which suffocates virtually every aspect of life for Palestinians. You'd have no idea that Israel turned Gaza into a humanitarian crisis through its illegal siege.

On May 20th, we hope to bring to the attention of Philadelphians that Palestine is still the issue, and will always be the issue until Israel ends its military occupation. But we can't do this without the help of some dedicated volunteers. We need as many volunteers as possible so that our rally will be as LOUD (and as obnoxious!) as possible. 1. Israel is NOT a democracy as only one ethnic group has basic civil and human rights under Israeli law. Israel is a racist apartheid and ethnocracy. Coupled with this, Turkey had had a democracy for many decades. Then again I doubt you can use your brain to realize this beyond Zionist propaganda lines.

What a joke you people are...a flat out joke that's not funny. The best is the sign saying "the children of gaza have a right to live free"...ironic considering there is not one single Israeli soldier or citizen living in gaza after Ariel Sharon pulled everyone out. So if they still aren't free...maybe it's time you look at your own leadership and realize they don't give a damn about you.

Israel is a beautiful place because Israeli's, namely Jews, built it from nothing.
