the other traditional "Mountain Dew" came out of the southern appalachia (mountain music..country music) and has its roots in Scottish and Irish ancestry... they just had a different way of tell their story .........moonshine is still moonshine and dew is still dew

It's "by the smoke and the smell, you can plainly tell that there's POITIN brewin' nearby."
As Paddy says in the into to the song, POITIN (pronounced "potcheen") is the name of the moonshine in question.

"by the smoke and the smell u can plainly tell that there's witchin brewin nearby",R.U. sure no one's also growin cannabis? It would've been easier for the Irish 2 grow their own than having to import weed from their long-time Afghani pot farmer friends.Reminds me of John Belushi's Luck of the Irish Sat Night Live skit & his talk of his Irish friend busted for weed trafficking--"no luck for his Irish friend" Funny dudes, but where's the whistle at the start which usually goes with this song?

I've allways wondered why "some" booze is still illegal ta this day.
As long as it doesn't kill ya it makes ya stronger, therefore it shouldn't be illegal. :P
