The halls of Hood River County Courthouse have seen many things over the years, but this spectacle involving Judge Donald Hull was a first. Hull, who retired from Circuit Court on Dec. 30, entertained friends and associates at his retirement party by tap dancing on the stairway landing. With him are his teacher Tony Dallman, at left, and fellow students Bob Green and Dennis Zimmerman. Hull retires after 21 years on the bench. For the past six years, he has studied tap with Dallman. After a short huddle over which steps to do (that's Hull saying, "six years of following Tony!") off went the quartet in a one-minute display to the delight of the audience seated on the stars and standing in the third-floor lobby. The audience called for an encore, and the four dancers complied, with Dallman announcing, "for the final time in all history!" Hull, decked in a felt holly bow tie made by Adie Arens, then accepted congratulations from his friends. Hull had politely declined some folks' request that he dance not in the hallway, but on his courtroom bench.
